A Pig's Tale: Hog Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Leader.
Although not quite at the identical stature as granting clemency to holiday birds, but the mayor of Miami-Dade had her own presidential-style act this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. Clemency is justified for her. She has committed zero crimes,” Levine Cava said in a speech with inescapable allusions to the vast quantity of executive clemencies issued since the commencement of a new presidential term.
“If we disregard eating six or seven apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “May this pig enjoy a long and happy life free from concern.”
The gathering, simultaneously observing and challenging the region’s Hispanic tradition of consuming swine during the holidays, was created to mirror the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The animal, provided by a Coral Gables firefighter, was named for the modern linguistic fad of young people yelling “6-7” – inspired by a rap song lyric – often seemingly at random. The phrase became so pervasive that a major dictionary recently made “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.
A Peaceful Retirement
This particular pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a farm sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the event’s official press release.
“The annual pig pardon has become a cherished method to open the festive period,” said Eric Castellanos, in a notably cheerful message.
“It embodies the character of Miami: vibrant, varied, and grounded in customs that foster togetherness. Each year, we are honored to observe tradition and kindness in a way only Miami can.”
Attendees enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach fritters and strong coffee as they marked Six Seven’s big moment.
