Slot Maintains He Feels Safe and Has The Club's Support Following PSV Humiliation
Arne Slot acknowledged that it was understandable for questions to be asked about his position after another convincing loss versus the Dutch champions.
The Reds suffered their ninth defeat in twelve games, representing the club's worst streak after being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league champions on a difficult evening at Anfield.
“I feel secure, things are alright, I've received a lot of backing from management,” the coach stated.
“It's important to turn it around and earn three points obviously but when you're in a managerial role and not doing well then it's typical that doubts arise.”
He continued, “I am OK with my situation. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a tough spot but it's necessary that we improved our results.”
Conversations with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to expand on his conversations with the club's leadership, Slot revealed:
“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful to the team and for me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me all the time of the day to say they back me.”
He further stated, “Through standard conversations we have I feel the confidence. However I've not talked to them after this match so far so let’s see.”
Persistent Problems and Player Reaction
The manager lamented recurring failings from his squad in their European defeat, specifically missed opportunities and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was blunter in his evaluation of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the answers. Frankly, I don’t. I'm telling that to all,” the midfielder remarked.
“It's simply not good enough. I don't have to wait to consider it. I’m past getting mad inside. I’m at the point now where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He went on, “It’s hard because I play for the side I follow. I’m a fan, and I've watched this club since I was young.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Reds side going through a phase of this nature with outcomes like these.”
He concluded, “However we continue to wear the crest on our chest. And until that badge is gone, we will always compete.”
“We’re going to try to bring this squad back to the top, prove once more what Liverpool stands for and why people call it the greatest side in the planet.”
“But right now, things are bad and it needs to change.”
