The Latest Casual Playlist Sparks Heated Discussions Over Bots, XP Rewards, and Queue Times
Over the weekend, the game developers introduced a fresh game mode called Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option resembles the standard Breakthrough format but features several notable changes:
- Every squad has just 8 real players, with the rest filled by AI-controlled opponents.
- Actions performed by real players award full XP, while AI activities offer lower rewards.
- Only two locations are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State map.
- Features like Dogtags, achievements, and career stat updates have been turned off.
So essentially, this mode lives up to its title: it's a laid-back take of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think there's nothing wrong, since it provides additional choices for players seeking alternative ways to have fun with the title. But, if video games have taught us anything, it is that you can't please everyone. In other words, many BF6 players are mad.
Community Reactions: Anger to Praise
"Gamers prefer human opponents. Don't repeat the mistakes of your competitors," reads one reply to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing idea," comments another. At the same time, in community forums, a player notes, "I have no idea where we are going with this game," and another details everything they believe to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We don't need this bot mode."
On the other hand, for every complaint, there are players explaining how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's enjoyable to warm up, real players prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," reads a forum post. "The community doesn't understand that there are gamers who have lives and can't play this game all the time. Let them strike a balance," states another. One reply via social media explains that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is great for me," while another praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Constructive Criticisms and Player Feedback
All that said, there are constructive reasons to criticize Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have highlighted that it could increase wait times more extended for different playlists because of the sheer number of playlists currently available. Similarly, some areas often face AI-filled matches in the current modes. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of real players, despite it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.
Finally, a major grievances is that a previous feature was meant to provide full XP, even against bots, but that got canned when they tried to remove bot farms from the system. So this new playlist feels like the player base compromising halfway, as per forum feedback. Another labels this mode as the developers "dropping the ball so hard, I had great enjoyment in the first couple of days, what prompted them to change it?"
Looking Ahead: Will Changes Be Made?
If Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something to date with Battlefield 6, it is that they're listening and responding to feedback. Assignments being too difficult got fixed very quickly, as did the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, if their data shows this new playlist is underperforming to their standards, they will not hesitate to change it again.
