Thrice-crowned award winner Nikola Jokic sustains a 'heartbreaking' injury to his knee.
Thrice-crowned NBA MVP Nikola Jokic endured a "heartbreaking" knee injury when the Nuggets lost 147-123 at the Heat.
The Serbian center sustained the injury late in the first half in an unintentional contact with teammate Jones.
Jones landed on the footwear of Jokic, and he immediately fell to the ground holding his leg.
The veteran player, that is leading the NBA this season in boards and dimes, had 21 points and eight dimes in the contest prior to incurring the setback.
He is scheduled for an scan on the following day to assess the extent of the problem.
"Right away, Jokic realized there was a problem," commented Nuggets coach David Adelman.
"This happens in professional sports. Anyone who suffers an injury, it's gut-wrenching, particularly a player as talented as he is. We will know more on Tuesday."
"We'll move on together. Of course, at this moment, I'm more worried about him as a person and the disappointment of going through an event like that."
